1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 3. Nxe5 Qf6 4. d4 d6 5. Nc4 fxe4 6. Nc3 Nc6 7. Be3 Nh6 8.
Nxe4 Qh4 9. Ng3 Bg4 10. Be2 O-O-O 11. Qd2 d5 12. Bg5 Bxe2 13. Bxh4 Bxc4 14.
Bxd8 1-0

This game, I took half my time since I was facing an aggressive gambit opening.

4.d4  I recalled a Smyslov game that goes 4.Nc4, but I am not a finesse player such as this, my style is a bit more crude still, so I had wanted to play this 4.d4 move, if I had ever got this position on the board.

7.Be3  I missed this idea of 7.d5! (even though I knew I wanted to push this d-pawn before he could push his).  After 7…Ne5, 8.Nxe4 White has a tremendous position.

8.Nxe4  Even here, 8.d5! Ne5, 9.NxN QxN, 10.Bb5+ Bd7, 11.BxB KxB, 12.0-0 gives White a sizeable advantage, and Black has to put effort into holding onto the e-pawn.

9.Ng3  My longest think, and a poor move at that.  I didn’t want to play this move, but did a remarkably bad job of analysis with this position (my blitz move would have been 9.Ng5, which is better).  I also considered 9.Nc3 and 9.Ncd2, the top two moves but analyzed them poorly.  Therefore, this move represented the safest practical try.

12.Bg5  I’d like to tell you that this was played straight-away, but no.  I looked at 12.Ne5 NxN, and then 12.Na5 NxN, 13.QxN.  Not finding either move satisfactory, I looked for other ideas and found this one.  When I finally played this move, Will Wolf said “How long has that been there for?”

  1. Tuesday’s game – he multiplied his 12… d5 mistake twice – 13… Nxd5 and 14… Nxc3, every times increasing his material loss.

  2. lol. Yeah, and he got another 50 rating points on Saturday against Class B player, I believe. I almost played the better 15.QxNc3, but at that point I was just as much trying to determine which line looked more interesting for me to play, or would be more quickly crushing on the clock.

  3. Wednesday’s game – yeah, 7. d5 was good.
I don’t know if playing 7… Bf5 would help him.
    9. Ng3 is not that bad, I considered Bd3, but Nb4 refutes it.
I don’t like Black’s position after the opening and it combined with his poor play.
